About Amanda Aquino
My local Community Center found a way to energize and interest children by providing them with many opportunities and activities. One of these was photography … which I whole-heartedly embraced. I learned the science and art of film photography, darkroom processing, and printing (using REAL dodge and burn techniques). The hobby stayed with me for decades where I was enamored by the works of Ansel Adams, Jon Fielder, and Thomas Mangelsen. Household names to be sure. Action photography piqued my interest after my son started playing soccer … of course I needed to capture those moments, so I learned everything I could to understand what it takes to not only freeze action, but to capture action. I volunteered to provide photographic services to one of my local rodeos. I loved the whole aspect of what I was doing and learned from Siri Stevens at Rodeo News on what to look for and how best to position myself to capture it. My local rodeo(s) liked what they saw from me and we worked out an arrangement for me to shoot the rodeo. I’ve been their official photographer (Cowboy Up in Kiowa) now for five years and have also submitted works to the Elizabeth Stampede, Cheyenne Frontier Days, and other local amateur events. I’ve also had photos featured in Rodeo News and local newspaper and websites. I also shoot special events such as weddings, graduations, senior portraits, family portraits, business head shots, home sale marketing, and travel. I’m always looking for way to improve what I do and share what I’ve learned and discovered. Check out my images at ArJen Images Phototgraphy.
