About Alan Murphy
Alan Murphy, who grew up as a birder in England & Ireland, moved to the US in the early eighties. To study the new species he was seeing in the States, he took up photography to aid in the identification process. This new passion eventually turned into a full-time career. He now runs his bird photography business and travels two weeks of every month, leading bird photography workshops.
Alan is the author of many educational ebooks and videos. He has nearly 100 published covers, including those of National Geographic and Life magazines. He has won numerous awards, including 2025’s Bird Photographer of the Year’s best portrait.
Alan lives in Evergreen, Colorado, with his wife, Kim, and their rescue dogs.
