Sandhill Cranes Migration

Join LTPC president Quirino Zaragoza for an informal trip to photograph sandhill cranes around Alamosa, CO March 1-3, 2026. We plan to depart the Lone Tree area at noon Sunday, March 1, and depart Alamosa mid-morning Tuesday, March 3.

It’s that time of the year when the sandhill cranes are migrating through Colorado. This is a great chance to see and photograph them feeding in the fields and in flight. There are lots of cranes in the fields around Alamosa, and we’ll be heading out for sunrise and sunset shoots, plus keeping our eyes open for other photo opportunities during the mornings and evenings.

Please register to let us know you’re interested, and we’ll coordinate. You are responsible for your own transportation, lodging and food etc. Unless some want to carpool? There are several places to stay in Monte Vista or Alamosa. Outing organizer Quirino Zaragoza is planning to stay at the Comfort Inn & Suites in Alamosa (about $110 per night).
